When you are the son of a famous, former NBA MVP, chances are you are going to be well off for the rest of your life. Bulls star Derrick Rose isn’t taking any chances, his next contract will be made with P.J. Rose in mind.

The Chicago-native spoke to the media earlier this week and noted that the free agency period in two years time will allow him to protect his son’s future.

From ESPN:

Making sure that my family is financially stable — as far as, you see all the money that they’re passing out in this league, [I’m] just telling the truth, just knowing that my day will be coming up soon. It’s not for me, it’s for [son] P.J. and his future. so that’s what I’m thinking about right now.

Rose and the Bulls were bounced by a LeBron James-led team again in the playoffs, but Rose showed much improvement from the regular season to the postseason. He said he spent time this summer to focus on his craft and his son.

This whole summer I had tunnel vision, he said. My mindset was just making sure that I was working out every day and spending as much time as possible with my son and focusing on them two things.

Rose has expressed a will to stay in Chicago, but said, “It’s nothing wrong with being over-prepared.”
