A man was critically wounded in a Lake View neighborhood shooting Monday evening on the North Side.

About 8:35 p.m., witnesses heard gunfire and found the 27-year-old victim in an alley in the 3200 block of North Racine with a gunshot wound to the left side of the neck, according to Chicago Police.

He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

“I want to give special thanks to Nick Notorangelo, Elaine Osgoode, and the residents who responded quickly and bravely to save this young man’s life,”  Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) said in a statement.

“They are shinning examples of the Lake View community. Together—neighbors, business and organizations alike—we will help make Lake View safer, and show that criminal activity will not be tolerated. Lake View is and will remain the best neighborhood in Chicago.”
