A 34-year-old man died hours after he was shot last month in the South Chicago neighborhood.

Derrick N. Canady was found shot in the head at 10:44 p.m. Aug. 13 in an alley in the 8600 block of South Essex, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Canady was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 1:55 a.m. Aug. 14, according to the medical examiner’s office. He lived about six blocks away from where he was discovered shot, in the 8000 block of South Essex.

An autopsy found he died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.
