Police warn of Greater Grand Crossing armed robberies

Several armed robberies have been reported in the last three weeks in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.

The suspects pull out firearms and demand property from their victims, according to the community alert from Area South detectives.

The robberies happened:

  • about noon Aug. 29 in the 100 block of East 79th Street;
  • about 9:40 p.m. Sept. 1 in the 7800 block of South State Street;
  • about 2:30 p.m. Sept. 14 in the 7800 block of South Calumet Avenue; and
  • about 11 p.m. Sept. 14 in the 100 block of West 79th Street.

The suspects are described as two black men between 20 and 45, 5-foot-6 to 6-foot-2, 140-200 pounds with medium to dark complexions, police said. One of the suspects has dreadlocks and the other has short hair.
