Lane closures and intermittent full stops on the Edens Expressway beneath Lake Avenue are planned for this weekend in north suburban Wilmette.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced overnight lane closures and intermittent full stops will take place on Interstate 94 under Lake Avenue, weather permitting, on Saturday to remove and replace damaged bridge beams.

Starting at 9 p.m. Saturday, the inside lane in both directions of the expressway will be closed until 10 a.m. Sunday. The center lane will also close midnight to 8 a.m. Sunday, IDOT said,

Full traffic stops will be scheduled for 15-minute intervals from 1-7 a.m. Sunday, while entrance ramps from Lake to the expressway will be closed from 9 p.m. Saturday until 10 a.m. Sunday.

IDOT urges drivers to allow extra time, pay close attention to flaggers and signs, obey posted speed limits, and be alert for workers and equipment.
