Police: Man shot self in leg in Chicago Lawn

A man shot himself in the leg in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side Thursday night, police said.

The 25-year-old told investigators he was handling a handgun in the 6500 block of South Maplewood about 8:30 p.m. when it accidentally discharged, police said. He also told police he discarded the weapon after he was shot in the leg.

He took himself to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said.
