A man was found dead Thursday morning near the Metra tracks in north suburban Evanston.

An engineer called authorities at 8:06 a.m. to report a body on the bridge that carries Metra tracks over Dempster Street in Evanston, according to Evanston Police Cmdr. Ryan Glew. The engineer’s train had not hit the person.

The body, later identified as that of 34-year-old Jason Arcangeletti, was between the northbound tracks and the edge of the bridge, Glew and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said. Arcangeletti, who lived a few blocks away from where his body was found, was pronounced dead at 8:59 a.m.

An autopsy Saturday did not rule on Arcangeletti’s death pending further investigation, the medical examiner’s office said.

Glew said the condition of the body was “consistent with being struck by a train,” but it was not immediately clear when the crash actually occurred.
