Man, 31, killed in West Englewood shooting

A man has died after being wounded in a shooting Wednesday morning in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

Gary Wilkins, 31, was walking about 11:45 a.m. when someone came out of a gangway in the 6300 block of South Paulina and began shooting in his direction, Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

Wilkins was struck multiple times and the shooter ran off, authorities said. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:01 p.m. Thursday.

He lived blocks from where he was shot.

Area South detectives were conducting a homicide investigation.
