Woman fatally struck by Red Line train near 87th Street committed suicide

A woman who was fatally struck by a CTA Red Line train Friday afternoon near the 87th Street station in the West Chatham neighborhood committed suicide, authorities said.

Officers responded about 2 p.m. to the station at 15 W. 87th St. and found 53-year-old Carolyn Marshall unresponsive on the tracks, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A police investigation found she had been struck by a train.

An autopsy conducted Saturday found Marshall died from multiple blunt force injuries related to being struck by the train, and her death was ruled a suicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Area South detectives were investigating.
