A man died hours after being wounded in a shooting Sunday morning in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

At 8:58 a.m., 22-year-old Andre Jermaine Stephens Jr. was standing with a group of people in the 700 block of North Trumbull when someone fired shots that struck him in the back and abdomen, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Stephens was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:29 p.m., police said. He lived in the Austin neighborhood.

Area North detectives were conducting a homicide investigation.
