Brother Rice dominates Providence

Brother Rice dominated previously undefeated Providence 20-0 on Friday.

“It wasn’t our greatest game overall,” Crusaders coach Brian Badke. “Defensively I am very, very proud. Our guys came out to work and we got it done.”

No. 7 Brother Rice (5-0) secured its first shutout of the season and is allowing just more than seven points a game. It was the first road game of the season for the Crusaders.

Quarterback John Bean and Cornell recruit Dylan Summers hooked up for three touchdowns.

“It’s a very difficult thing to defend when you can throw the ball and you have some weapons outside, plus you can run the ball,” Badke.

“Our defense is a special group and they want these shutouts and to get after it and hold these opponents down as best they can.”

Brother Rice was 2-7 last season. It’s been quite a turnaround. The Crusaders are already playoff eligible.

“Last year was a tough year for all of us and I’m real excited about these guys being able to clinch a playoff berth,” Badke said. “But we’re thinking about going down to St. Rita in Week 6.”
