Schaumburg residents should prepare for longer commutes this fall as planned repairs along Golf Road get underway next week in the northwest suburb.

Improvements to the median, pedestrian ramp, curb and gutter on Golf Road between Basswood Street and Interstate 290 are expected to begin Monday, weather permitting, and should be completed by the end of December, the Illinois Department of Transportation said. The repairs will cause daytime lane closures.

Drivers can expect delays and should allow for extra time commuting through the work area, IDOT said. Motorists are advised to pay close attention to signs in the work zones and to be on alert for workers and equipment.
