A woman died in a crash Monday after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop in west suburban Aurora.

The driver of a Mercury SUV allegedly took off from a Kane County sheriff’s deputy about 8:15 p.m. near Mountain Street and Farnsworth Avenue, the Kane County state’s attorney’s office said in a statement.

The Mercury fled northbound, jumped a median and crashed head-on into a Jeep, prosecutors said.

The driver, identified as 49-year-old Marcie Lopez, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to prosecutors and the Kane County coroner’s office. She lived in Aurora.

The driver of the other vehicle was treated at a hospital for their injuries, the state’s attorney’s office said.

Investigations are being conducted by the Aurora Police Department, the Kane County Major crimes and Officer Involved Death Task Force.
