A bicyclist was injured Saturday after he was struck by a car in north suburban Beach Park.

Authorities were called about 1:20 a.m. to the area of Sheridan Road and Mawman Avenue for a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.

They found a man, 63, laying in the roadway with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said. He was taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan.

A preliminary investigation found the man was biking north on Sheridan when he was struck by a 2016 Chevrolet passenger car also northbound, the sheriff’s office said. The car fled the scene.

About an hour after authorities found the man, someone from the 2600 block of Gilboa Avenue in Zion called officials saying their 20-year-old daughter struck someone on Sheridan Road, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators traveled to a home at the caller’s location and found the car and driver, the sheriff’s office said.

The Chevrolet was impounded as the sheriff’s office’s Technical Crash Unit is investigating.
