A first-floor unit caught fire Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the New Parie Hotel, 2847 W. Washington Blvd, leaving a 52-year-old woman who inhaled smoke in serious condition.

Thirteen people were evacuated from a hotel that caught fire Saturday evening in East Garfield Park.

About 7:35 p.m., Chicago firefighters responded to the fire at the New Parie Hotel at 2847 W. Washington Blvd., the Chicago Fire Department said. Upon arrival, crews found a unit on the first floor of the five-story hotel in flames.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the room and evacuated eight people out of a second floor window and five from a rear door under heavy smoke conditions, the department said.

A 52-year-old woman was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition to be treated for smoke inhalation, officials said. A 28-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were taken to Norwegian American Hospital in good condition. Nine people were displaced by the blaze, officials said.

All others declined additional treatment.
