Megan Thee Stallion dropped her much-anticipated track “Hot Girl Summer” on Thursday. The song features Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla Sign.

The song’s title is a phrase that has been trending on social media all summer long. Fans of the rapper helped coin the phrase, which is inspired by Stallion’s lyrics in “Cash Sh—” and the album art on “Fever” that reads, “She’s thee HOT GIRL and she’s bringing THEE HEAT.”

“It’s about women and men being unapologetically them, just having a good-ass time, hyping up their friends, doing you,” Megan Thee Stallion told The Root earlier this year.

Fans inspired by her message have been using the hashtag #hotgirlsummer in sun-drenched photos and posts, which has been used over 300,000 times on Instagram.

“Hotties,” as Megan Thee Stallion fans refer to themselves, weren’t shy about their excitement following the release.

“The moment we’ve all been waiting for,” one fan wrote.

“i don’t know what i ever done to deserve this anthem but stream hot girl summer #hot girl summer,” tweeted another fan.

Others were critical, saying the song did not live up to the hype.

“Hot Girl Summer just wasn’t hitting like i thought it would,” a disappointed fan wrote.

By Friday afternoon, thhe song was the second-highest trending video on YouTube .
