A 52-year-old woman was shot and critically wounded Thursday in Gresham on the South Side.

About 8:20 p.m., she was inside a residence in the 7800 block of South Throop Street when she was shot once in the chest by a 71-year-old man, Chicago police said.

She was rushed to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, police said.

The shooting appears to be domestic related, police said.

The 71-year-old man is in custody, police said. Area South detectives are investigating.
