A 52-year-old Carpentersville man was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday while crossing a street near another crash in Hoffman Estates.

Officers were at the scene of a crash about 6:45 p.m. near Higgins and Beverly roads when the man not involved in the crash tried to cross Higgins, police said in a statement.

The man was hit by a vehicle and taken to Lutheran General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

He was identified as Peter Khokhar, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy ruled his death an accident.

Neither alcohol or drugs appeared to be a factor in the crash, police said.
