A person died in a fiery single-vehicle crash Sunday in southwest suburban Joliet.

Officers responded to the crash about 7:30 p.m. at Western Avenue and North Bluff Street and found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames, Joliet police said in a statement.

The male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His identity has not been released.

Investigators determined the vehicle was westbound on Western Avenue after crossing the Cass Street bridge when it travelled off the road to the right, overturned and struck a light pole and a metal fence before erupting in flames, police said.

The crash was being investigated by the Joliet Police Traffic Unit.
