Driver dies after crashing into maintenance truck on I-294

A driver died in a fiery crash Thursday morning after hitting a maintenance vehicle on Interstate 294 in the southwest suburbs, according to Illinois State Police.

The crash happened about 5:20 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Buckley Road, according to a statement from state police spokesman Edgar Valdez.

The car was engulfed in flames and the 36-year-old driver from Chicago was pronounced dead at scene, Valdez said. His hame hasn’t been released.

The 46-year-old driver of the tollway maintenance truck was taken to a hospital and was expected to survive.

All but one lane was closed during an investigation, Valdez said.
