Man struck, killed by vehicle in Melrose Park; driver in custody

The incident happened about 4:50 a.m. in the 2700 block of Mannheim Road, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A 63-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle Sunday in an unincorporated area near suburban Melrose Park.

The incident happened about 4:50 a.m. in the 2700 block of Mannheim Road in unincorporated Leyden Township, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

James Balducci suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled an accident.

The driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old man, was taken into custody, the Cook County sheriff’s office said.

The Cook County sheriff’s office is investigating.
