Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected in the Chicago area Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Northeastern DuPage and Cook Counties through 3 p.m. Storms could be accompanied by up to 60 mph gusts, large hail and torrential downpours.

Gusts could down tree limbs, damage roofs, and siding, the weather service said. The weather service advises moving to the lowest floor of a building or to move to an interior room for protection.
