Mitch Trubisky threw three touchdowns, Anthony Miller caught a career-high nine passes for 140 yards and the Bears rallied for a 24-20 win over the Lions on Thanksgiving Day.

David Montgomery scored the go-ahead TD with just over two minutes in regulation off a short pass from Trubisky to complete a nine-play, 90-yard drive. Eddie Jackson picked off a fourth-down pass inside the final minute to seal the win.

David Blough, the third-string QB making his NFL debut, came out firing for the Lions with a 75-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Golladay on his first-ever NFL completion. The Bears’ defense hardened up after allowing two touchdowns in the first quarter, however, holding Detroit to two field goals the remainder of the game.

The Bears are back to .500 with the victory.

Lions 20, Bears 17: After a dropped pass by Allen Robinson, Mitch Trubisky goes deep on third down to Anthony Miller for a huge 35-yard gain. That’s the big play they badly needed to get going.

Lions 20, Bears 17: A questionable fair catch and a penalty have the Bears looking at first-and-15 at their own 5-yard line, so they still have a distance to go just to get into field goal position.

Lions 20, Bears 17: A big run by Bo Scarbrough gets called back for an illegal block in the back on Kenny Golladay. That’s huge for the Bears as we reach the midway point of the fourth quarter.

Lions 20, Bears 17: The Bears go three-and-out with Mitch Trubisky getting sacked right after the broadcast notes that he hasn’t been sacked in the game.

Lions 20, Bears 17: With the Lions driving deep into Bears territory, they get another chance on third down following a penalty on Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, but cannot convert on third-and-1 thanks to a killer tackle by Kyle Fuller, so they settle for a Matt Prater field goal.

Lions 17, Bears 10: The Bears’ defense responds again with a three-and-out.

Lions 14, Bears 7: David Blough goes deep again for 34 yards to Kenny Golladay, who continues to shred up the Bears’ secondary in this game. The Lions are already back into the red zone.

Lions 14, Bears 7: Rather than kick a 50-yard field goal, the Bears go for it on fourth-and-6 and fail to execute. Anthony Miller gets called for illegal formation, which the Lions decline. Detroit ball.

Lions 14, Bears 7: A moving drive gets stalled by a pair of penalties that force the Bears into first-and-32, but Mitch Trubisky makes a couple of passes to get to fourth-and-6 and set up a potential field goal for Eddy Pineiro at the Lions’ 32.

Lions 14, Bears 7: After a nice play by Mitch Trubisky to wiggle out of danger and find Anthony Miller, the receiver fumbles and it’s recovered by Detroit’s Darius Slay, but the play is overturned and ruled an incomplete pass. Whew.

It’s also worth keeping an eye on Trubisky, who took a huge blow on the play.

Bears 7, Lions 0: TOUCHDOWN! With no plays longer than 14 yards, the Bears snaked their way down the field to complete a six-play, 50-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Allen Robinson.

Bears 0, Lions 0: The Bears’ offense takes the field with favorable field position to open the game after the Lions won the coin toss, deferred and offsetting penalties led to a second kick that Cordarelle Patterson took 57 yards before getting pushed out near midfield.

Before the game

The Bears look to get back to .500 with a Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Lions at Ford Field. It’s the 18th time the two teams have met on the holiday, including last year when Chase Daniel led the Bears to a 23-16 victory to give the franchise a 9-8 advantage in the matchup.

Mitch Trubisky will be the one under center Thursday in his latest attempt to play a strong four quarters in a row. He’s been up and down throughout his third professional season, but there have been signs of progress in recent weeks when the team turns up the tempo with the clock running.

That’s still more than we’ve seen from Lions starting quarterback David Blough, who will make his NFL debut Thursday due to injuries to Matthew Stafford and Jeff Driskel. Blough, a rookie out of Purdue, has never thrown a pass in the NFL. He’s being backed up by a banged up Driskel, who’s dealing with a hamstring injury, and tight end Logan Thomas, a former college QB at Virginia Tech who has thrown 10 passes in the NFL.

The Bears’ defense, which ranks fourth in the NFL, has to be licking its chops at the chance for a big day against a third-string passer on national TV.
