Woman shot by someone inside car that nearly struck her in Chatham

The 19-year-old was walking in the 700 block of East 82nd Street when an SUV driving the wrong way almost hit her, police said.

A woman was shot by someone inside of a vehicle that almost hit her Thursday in Chatham on the South Side.

About 3:47 p.m., the 19-year-old was walking in the street in the 700 block of East 82nd Street when an SUV driving the wrong way down the block almost struck her, Chicago police said. She then stepped onto the sidewalk.

The SUV then drove into an alley and someone inside fired shots at her, striking her in the back, police said. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

Police did not confirm is she was targeted.

Area South detectives are investigating.
