A person was killed in a shooting Friday in Gresham on the South Side, police said. 

About 3:17 a.m., a male adult was discovered on the sidewalk in the 9000 block of South Parnell Avenue with a gunshot wound to the back, Chicago police said. 

The male was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not identified the man, but ruled his death a homicide by multiple gunshot wounds in an autopsy conducted Saturday.

Area South detectives are investigating.
