A man was shot to death inside a vehicle Friday in Gary, Indiana.

Police were called at 9:42 a.m. for reports of a gunshot victim in the 1600 block of Van Buren Street, according to a statement from Gary police.

Officers arrived to find 24-year-old Marquis Sample slumped over with multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle in the middle of the block, police and the Lake County coroner’s office said.

Sample, who lived in Gary, was pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner’s office said. His death was ruled a homicide.

The Lake County Crime Lab processed the vehicle and crime scene for evidence, police said.

The shooting remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Detective Michael Equihua with the Lake/Gary Metro Homicide Unit at 219-755-3852.
