Chicago police investigate the scene where a woman was shot, Sunday night, in the 4100 block of South Prairie, in the Bronzeville neighborhood.

A woman was wounded by gunfire Sunday in Bronzeville on the South Side.

The 45-year-old was sitting on the sidewalk with a group of people about 10:52 p.m. in the 200 block of East 41st Street when someone in a red vehicle fired shots from an alley, Chicago police said. The woman was hit in the back.

She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition, police said.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
