Teen charged with murder in Hoffman Estates shooting

A 17-year-old boy faces charges of first-degree murder and attempted robbery in connection to an October slaying in suburban Hoffman Estates.

The teen allegedly knew the victim, Roberto Avila-Juarez, before killing him Oct. 27 in the 200 block of West Berkley Lane, Hoffman Estates police said in a statement.

Officers responded there at 11:40 a.m. and found Avila-Juarez, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 20-year-old died of a gunshot wound to his face, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Police have haven’t released other details about the shooting.

The teen is awaiting a court appearance at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center.
