Two men were shot, one of them fatally, early Friday in Englewood on the South Side.

The men, 29 and 40, were traveling in a van about 1:30 a.m. in the 6800 block of South Wolcott Avenue when someone fired shots, Chicago police said.

A 29-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and back and transported himself to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Jerome Smith.

An autopsy conducted Saturday ruled Smith’s death a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.
