A 64-year-old woman was shot and critically wounded Wednesday night in a drive-by in Austin on the West Side.

She was standing on the sidewalk with several others about 10:50 p.m. in the 5500 block of West North Avenue when someone in a passing light-colored SUV fired shots in her direction, Chicago police said.

The woman was struck in the abdomen and taken to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, but was later transferred to Stroger, police said. The shooter drove west on North Avenue.

Detectives believe she was not the intended target, police said.
