A man was killed in a shooting Thursday in Heart of Chicago on the Lower West Side, police said.

Victor Cervantes, 23, was in a vehicle about 5 p.m. in the 1700 block of West Cermak Road when someone opened fire, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He was struck in the head, chest and taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Two people of interest were taken into custody, police said.

Area Central detectives are investigating.

The incident occurred about 3:40 p.m. near Minooka. The horse was successfully placed back into the trailer, and the highway reopened about 40 minutes later. No injuries were reported.
