Three men were shot, one fatally, Tuesday in Princeton Park on the South Side.

They were in the street about 6:40 p.m. in the 9400 block of South Lafayette Avenue when someone opened fire, Chicago police said.

A 54-year-old man was struck in the abdomen, and a 23-year-old man was hit in the thigh, police said. Both were taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where the older man was pronounced dead and the 23-year-old was in critical condition.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identifed the 54-year-old man as being James Ellis. He lived in South Loop.

A 34-year-old man was taken to the same hospital in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the buttocks, police said.

No arrests have been reported. Area Two detectives are investigating.

Three men were wounded in a separate shooting a few hours earlier in Austin on the West Side.
