1 killed, 1 wounded in Humboldt Park shooting

A 35-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest, and a 23-year-old woman was grazed in the leg, police said.

A man was killed and a woman was wounded in a shooting Tuesday in Humboldt Park on the West Side.

The 35-year-old man was found unresponsive with two gunshot wounds to his chest about 9:53 p.m. in the 4100 block of West Crystal Street, Chicago police said. He was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as being Derrick Mitchell. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said. He lived in East Garfield Park.

A 23-year-old woman who was grazed in the leg took herself to the same hospital in good condition, police said.

No one is in custody as Area Five detectives investigate.
