Man fatally shot in Back of the Yards

The 32-year-old was standing in the doorway of a home when someone approached him and opened fire, police said.

Two people were shot, one fatally, July 24, 2021, in Gage Park.

A man was shot dead May 5, 2020, in the 4600 block of South Marshfield Avenue.

A man was killed in a shooting Tuesday in Back of the Yards on the South Side, police said.

He was standing in the doorway of a home about 6:50 p.m. in the 4600 block of South Marshfield Avenue when someone got out of a dark-colored vehicle, walked up to the home and fired shots, Chicago police said.

Jose Enrique Avila was pronounced dead at the scene, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. The gunman drove off south on Marshfield, police said.

An autopsy found that Avila, of suburban Berwyn, died from multiple gunshot wounds, the medical examiner’s office said.

Detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
