Man shot dead in Heart of Chicago

The 32-year-old was on the sidewalk in the 2000 block of West 18th Place when someone unleashed gunfire from a vehicle, police said.

A man was killed in a shooting Monday in Heart of Chicago on the Lower West Side, police said.

He was on the sidewalk bout 5:50 p.m. in the 2000 block of West 18th Place when someone fired shots from a light-colored vehicle, Chicago police said.

The 32-year-old was struck in the back and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. 

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as being Jonathan Castillo. He lived on the Near West Side.

Area Three detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
