Man found fatally shot in Lawndale

A 39-year-old man was found with a fatal gunshot wound Monday in Lawndale on the West Side.

He was found unresponsive about 2:27 a.m. in the 900 block of South Independence Boulevard, Chicago police said. He had a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Sterling R. Pledge Jr. of Homan Square on the West Side.

No one is in custody as Area Four detectives investigate.
