Man fatally shot in South Shore

A 23-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday morning in South Shore on the South Side.

He was found with gunshot wounds to his chest and leg about 5:50 a.m. in the 7700 block of South Phillips Avenue, police said.

He was rushed to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the man as Demarcus Wiggins.

An autopsy conducted Sunday confirmed Wiggins died of his gunshot wounds, the medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled a homicide.

The circumstances of the shooting are unknown because Wiggins was unable to speak to officers and witness accounts have changed, police said.

Area Two detectives are investigating.
