Man killed in South Chicago shooting

A witness heard the gunshots and found the 29-year-old man lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

A man was shot to death Friday in South Chicago on the South Side.

The 29-year-old was walking to his car about 5:05 a.m. in the 8000 block of South Muskegon Avenue when someone opened fire, according to Chicago police. A witness heard the gunshots and found the man lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

He was identified as Derius Coleman of South Chicago, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide.

No one is in custody as Area Two detectives investigate.
