Man killed in assault near Matteson

The 76-year-old was found lying face down on the floor inside of a home, police said.

A man was killed in an assault Monday in an unincorporated area near south suburban Matteson.

Authorities were called about 3:56 a.m. to the 300 block of Wildrock Terrace and found a 76-year-old man lying face down on the floor inside of a home, the Cook County sheriff’s office said in a statement.

He was later pronounced dead at St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, the sheriff’s office said.

An autopsy found he died of multiple from an assault and ruled his death a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said. He was identified as Floyd Arthur Farkas, of Matteson.

Cook County sheriff’s police are investigating.
