An off-duty Chicago police officer shot and wounded a man on New Year’s Day in the Lawndale neighborhood.
The officer fired his weapon and struck the man in the arm shortly after noon in the 1200 block of South Kedvale Avenue, police said.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition, a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department said.
Police have not released information about the circumstances of the shooting but said the man who was hospitalized and two others were taken into custody. No charges have been filed.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability was investigating, the agency said on Twitter.
Police officers could be seen walking around a blue sedan parked in a nearby alley that had been blocked by police tape. Officers also later taped off an empty lot between two properties in the largely residential neighborhood.
A few curious residents walked by the crime scene, but most said they didn’t hear or see the shooting.
“You have nice people, kids,” 53-year-old Anthony House said of the area after he walked over with a friend to see what happened.
