Thieves target unattended vehicles on Near West Side, West Town: police

The keys were inside the vehicles when they were stolen, police said.

Chicago police are warning residents of a series of vehicle thefts reported in recent weeks in West Town and on the Near West Side.

In each case, the vehicles were left unattended with the keys inside when they were stolen, Chicago police said.

The thefts happened:

  • At 11:30 p.m. Dec. 13 in the 1000 block of West Madison Street;
  • At 12:30 p.m. Dec. 14 in the 900 block of West Washington Boulevard;
  • At 8:10 p.m. Dec. 14 in the 1000 block of West Washington Boulevard;
  • At 7:20 p.m. Dec. 19 in the 100 block of North Carpenter Street; and
  • At 8:20 p.m. Dec. 19 in the 1000 block of West Madison Street.
