Man fatally shot in Austin: police

About 11:10 a.m., Javontae Hendricks was in the 1400 block of North Mayfield Avenue when someone opened fire, striking him in the head, officials said.

A teen boy was fatally shot Aug. 14, 2022, in the Golden Gate neighborhood.

A person was shot dead Feb. 28, 2021, in Austin.

A man was killed in a shooting Sunday in Austin on the West Side, police said.

About 11:10 a.m., the man was in the 1400 block of North Mayfield Avenue when someone opened fire, striking him in the head, Chicago police said.

He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him a Javontae Hendricks. He lived in the neighborhood.

Area Five detectives are investigating.
