A 62-year-old man was fatally shot Wednesday in Avalon Park on the South Side.

The man was outside about 2:50 p.m. when someone fired shots in the 7900 block of South Anthony Avenue, striking him in the back, Chicago police said.

The man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Anthony Debruce, and an autopsy ruled his death a homicide.

Area detectives are investigating.
