An 18-year-old man was found fatally shot Thursday in northwest Indiana.

Marc Burton was found in an abandoned building about 10:45 a.m. in the 1000 block of North Clark Road in Gary, Indiana with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Gary police and the Lake County coroner’s office.

Gary police were initially contacted by Hammond police about a possible deceased person Wednesday but due to poor lighting were unable to locate Burton until the following day, police said.

Burton, a resident of Hammond, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide.

The Metro Homicide Unit is investigating the fatal shooting.
