The death of a 3-month-old boy from suburban Elgin has been ruled a homicide, the Cook County medical examiner’s office announced Saturday.

Malik Davis died from blunt force injuries to his head that he suffered during an incident on Monday afternoon at an apartment in the first block of Longwood Place in the northwest suburb, the medical examiner’s office said.

Elgin police said they were called to the home for “a report of a child in medical distress” but declined to provide further information.

The boy died at 1:37 p.m. Friday at Lurie Children Hospital, authorities said.

A spokesman for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services confirmed that the agency is investigating the death and said they have had contact with the family before.
