Lawndale man charged with carjacking ride-hailing driver in Brainerd

An 18-year-old man has been charged with carjacking a ride-hailing driver in December in the Brainerd neighborhood on the South Side.

Bail was denied Thursday for Jesus Garcia, 22, accused of fatally shooting a 25-year-old man on Sept. 17 in Logan Square.

An 18-year-old Lawndale man has been charged with a Dec. 22, 2020, carjacking in the 1100 block of West 95th Street.

An 18-year-old man has been charged with carjacking a ride-hailing driver in December in the Brainerd neighborhood on the South Side.

Cornelius Carr, of Lawndale, faces a felony count of vehicular hijacking and a felony count of armed robbery, Chicago police said.

Police identified him as the person who carjacked a 28-year-old ride-hailing driver Dec. 22 in the 1100 block of West 95th Street. Carr was arrested Monday in the 1300 block of South Avers Avenue.

He is due in bond court Tuesday.

In January, police Supt. David Brown revealed a plan to address the rise in carjackings, which have more than doubled in the past year.
