A man was killed and another critically hurt in a shooting Thursday in Chatham on the South Side.

The men, both 25, were standing on the sidewalk about 4:30 p.m. in the 700 block of East 79th Street when someone came out from the alley and began firing, Chicago police said.

One man was hit in the abdomen and arm and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Ronnie L. Sistrunk Jr.

The other was struck in the neck, leg and back and was taken to the same hospital in critical condition, police said.

No one was in custody.
