Man, 60, shot to death after opening front door at his Auburn Gresham home

The man was attacked in the 2000 block of West 83rd Street.

A 60-year-old man was shot to death Wednesday morning as he answered his door in Auburn Gresham on the South Side.

Stanley Johnson heard the doorbell and went to the front door of his home in the 2000 block of West 83rd Street about 2 a.m., Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

A family member heard a gunshot and found him lying in the doorway with a gunshot wound to his forehead, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No one was in custody.

Johnson was one of at least four people shot Wednesday in Gresham.
