A person was shot in an attempted robbery Friday in Marquette Park on the South Side.

A man, 42, was walking through a park just before 11 p.m. in the 2900 block of West Marquette Road when he was approached by an unidentified male who pulled out a handgun and demanded his belongings, Chicago Police said.

When the victim refused and reached for the gun, he was shot in the hand and the offender fled the scene, police said.

He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park where his condition was stabilized, police said.

No one was in custody.
