Someone outside in the 8000 block of South Union Avenue opened fire around 7:30 p.m. and hit the 53-year-old man in the chest, Chicago police said.

A man was shot while inside an apartment in Gresham on the South Side Tuesday night.

Someone outside in the 8000 block of South Union Avenue opened fire around 7:30 p.m. and hit the 53-year-old man in the chest, Chicago police said.

He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

No one was in custody.
